Zurich Australia Investments team

Matthew Drennan was appointed to the role of Chief Investment Officer & Head of Unit Linked Business for Zurich Australia in December 2022. He joined the business in March 2018 and has over 25 years experience working in the finance industry.

In this role Matthew is responsible for overseeing the management of the Group’s balance sheet investment assets and unit linked investments business comprising 10 funds. He is also a member of the Australian Executive Committee, the compliance committee and several investment committees within the group.

Matthew holds a B.Com in Economics, a Masters degree in Funds Management and is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. His previous roles include senior positions at ANZ Bank, NSW Treasury, Deutsche Asset Management, Shadforth Financial Group and IOOF.

Matthew is also well known as an industry commentator.

As Head of Investment Sales , Ray is responsible for overseeing the Investments Strategic Accounts and National Sales teams. He is responsible for executing the strategy and driving sales for Zurich Investment Funds from our National account partners and Advisers. Ray has over 20 years experience in the financial services industry.

Prior to joining Zurich in 2008, he held roles at Westpac, BT Financial Group and ANZ. Ray has completed a Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Banking and Finance from Melbourne University and a Graduate Diploma in Financial Planning through the Securities Institute of Australia.

Jeff is responsible for managing adviser alliances and implementing regional business development strategies. He has over 25 years' experience in the financial services industry, with the last 21 being in the Western Australian and South Australian market.

Prior to joining Zurich in 2012, Jeff worked for Colonial First State as Business Development Manager in the funds management business, after that Jeff was the State Manager for WA/SA & NT in the Core Equities and Colonial Geared Investments (CGI) business focusing on Equities trading platform and margin lending. Prior to this he has held roles with Perennial Investment Partners  as an Investment Specialist and Business Development Manager.

Patrick joined Zurich in September 2006 and has over 20 years experience in the financial services industry.  He is a co-portfolio manager for Zurich’s diversified funds and is responsible for manager selection, asset allocation and is a member of the funds’ Tactical Asset Allocation Committee.  Patrick is also responsible for communicating Zurich’s investment management capabilities to the advisory market, providing support and investment commentary to financial advisers on Zurich’s managed funds. Patrick is a CFA charterholder and a CIMA® certificant.

Charles joined Zurich Investments in 2015 and has worked in the financial services industry for over 20 years. He is responsible for providing support and investment commentary to financial advisers and investors of Zurich’s managed funds.

Most recently, Charles was an Investment Analyst at Five Oceans Asset Management, covering Asian equities and global telecom stocks. Prior to this, he was a Fund Manager for Pengana Capital’s Asian Equities Fund, with additional responsibility for the Telecom and Technology sectors across Asia including Japan. Charles has also held investment roles at Perennial Investment Partners and Murray Johnstone in Glasgow, covering global equities.

Charles has a Masters in Modern History from St Andrews University in the UK. He is a CFA charterholder and has passed the CFA Institute Certificate in ESG Investing. He is also a CAIA charterholder.
